Here is Rochelles and a couple of sample fabrics

I am going to use the other fabrics for a quilt square also.  I thought it might help with the fabric selection.

Drunkards Path

Drunkard Path is the quilt pattern I chose for August.

This is a 3-D quilt square

Fabrics Cuts:

Dark KT - Purple Bright –Purple

I Light KT- Green    Brights - Green

Color of fabric – Purple and Green

4- 5 in circles in the both colors of fabric

16- 3 ½  squared in both colors of fabric

Unit #1-

 See the remainder of the document for pattern instructions.

Place 2 matching 5 V2". Pin at the quarters.

Sew scant%" seams around the circle. Use the heads of the pins to help rotate and control the fabric. This can help sew a rounder seam.

Cut sewn circles in half 2 times to create 4 equal pieces.

(Try folding drde  alf and marking the edges at the fold.  DCut the circle in half using the marks. \1) Fold along the cut edge and find the half way mark again.                                                                                            D

Use a line on a ruler to create a 90 degree angle at the mark and along the cut edge.

 Ciip the Seam allowance (not into the seam) and remove small triangular pieces to allow the seam to turn and lay flat. Turn the pieces right side out.  Roll the seam from the edge to just under the front piece. Press. This creates a more pleasing look than having the seam at the edge. The piece will also lay better.              Trim each piece to 2 112".

Place the 2 V2" measurement on the ruler at the curved edge of the unit. Repeat on the other edge of the curve. Trim the raw edges.

and we are using only 2 fabrics.

I chose the colors purple and green.

 Here is the sample of what Rochelle  fabrics are.

Once you have your pattern pieces cut put the round pieces with right sides

together

these look like two different fabrics but they are the same it is the shading.

  

 Place Pins around the sides and four in the middle.  This helps to hold the fabric in place as you sew the fabrics  and keeps it more circular, Just a hint.

Once you have sewn the circle cut in fourths and snip the seam allowance not cutting the seam in little triangles.  When asked about  pinking shears, was told it doesn’t have the same effect.  I found it easier to snip diagonally one way then come back diagonally returning to the other side.  IT worked for me.

Then turn inside out.  As you iron the quarters be sure the seam is a little underneath, it also lays better when you put the squares together.

Lay the quarters on to the squares and pin.  Sew onto the square with 1/8 inch seam.  This helps when sewing and assembling the pieces together.

 Once all the quarter have been sewn to the squares you can assemble them for the pattern.  I liked this one used but as the instruction states you can use any way to put the 20 squares together.

Now sew the pieces together matching seams, circle pieces etc.

This one is one of the quarter squares.  You can square up to 6 ½ inches to make the final assemble work better.

I am loving all of my blocks. They are going to look great in my bedroom. I cannot hardly wait to put them together. Keep them coming!

My 3D Faux Block

Here is my block for July. I had a lot of fun with it. I want to show it to a friend of mine, but I'll mail it off as soon as I do.

I love them both. I am so excited to put it together. My mother-in-law is doing a print with a trim in burnt orange. Like I said I am anxious to put it together. They look absolutely wonderful. Yes!!!!

Rachel (Graham)....I got your square, It looks GREAT and I love the dotted Swiss! so Summery! My mom used to make summer dresses out of dotted swiss for me and my sisters! So good memories when I see and feel that! And I got your sweet granma's!!! She chose some really good shades of blue and I LOVE HER pattern and technique!!! I will definitely use it in the quilt...will make it even more special! Tell her thank you so much!!! Or give me her address and I will write and tell her. She is so amazing! My granny did quilt squares up until she was about 90-ish and I have a few of ones she did. I want to somehow use them to make something, maybe a pillow for each of the kids except I think I only have 3 or 4, so have to figure that one out!!! :D Thank you for the quilt squares! Love you!

Quick Question

Is there anyway we can get an update on the previous month's quilts?  I think it would awesome to see the different quilt squares we all sent in put together...even if they aren't finished yet.  I don't mean to be a pain but I would really like to see what these quilts will look like all put together.

I can't seem to comment but I like the pattern of the month.  I did it in one of my classes.  It is awesome and super easy.

3DFaux Cathedral Window Instructions.

The size of the blocks are as follows:

3 1/2" squared solid black fabric (Qty. 16)
6 1/2" squared coordinating solid piece of fabric (Qty. 4)
3 1/2" squared accent piece (exotic anmal fabric) (Qty. 4)

It is much easier than it looks or I wouldn't have done it. Just watch the video she is very good at explaining it and demonstrating it. It is sooo cool when it is done. I am excited to see what you come up with. I am going to get a jungle green for the edging of the quilt. Rosanne said she would help me do the scalloped edging. My bedroom is done in the animal prints. I will be fine with whatever animal print you choose. I think Rachel said girraff and I am fine with whatever you choose. Just because you chose it. Ok I used my cell phone so my focus wasn't any good, but here in my quilt square. 

Completed June Beach Double Pinsheel Squares

I have finished two different color schemes for my beach themed quilt in the double pinwheel pattern using the materials I had in the taped prototypes posted earlier. The blue one below was my first full sized block, measuring 12 inches completed using 1/4 inch seams following the pattern I posted earlier at site:

Then I did a green color scheme. See below, it is technically better than this first one. I like both color schemes and can't wait to see what you pick!!! My plan is to use tan/beige "sand" colors for the borders....but I might try a stainedglass approach and use black as a border to make it pop, not sure, we will see which way it goes as your squares/waves come "rolling" in!!!


I was going to try a third one combining the blues and greens, and if I like it I will post it too.

Have fun! For a fun summer project for my granddaughter and daughter I am going to help them do some piecing using all the scraps I have accumulated, maybe begin making some Christmas presents to put back for friends and family!!!! They could make a quilted bag, or lap throw, or wall hanging....things that don't require a full sized quilt effort. Happy Summer!!! We LOVE Summer!!
